Scrapbooking
Going through some boxes in the basement with my mom, I came across tons of old family photos, most of them had been collected by my grandmother and go back several generations. The photos are in boxes, but names and dates are recorded on most of them. It's like a "buried treasure", seeing my grandma as a three year-old for the first time. I have been thinking about making a family scrapbook, but truth be told, I've never worked on such a huge project before and I'm not sure where to start.
Better digital, or handmade? Which materials and which software? How select the most "significant" moments?
Any ideas or advice would be welcome!

Re: Scrapbooking
Thats great, finding old pictures. It's fun to see pics of a person before you knew them, it's like an early version of the person you know.
I would do something handmade. Digital is nice and you can make a lot of beautiful things, but there is something special about handmade things. I think it's more personal.

Re: Scrapbooking
I think I'll try handmade first - I spend too much time at my computer anyway, my eyes will be grateful
I have bought my first scrapbook, off the internet, and now I must admit I'm confused. I bought a paper set as well, it says that the paper comes with "die cut and chipboard".
The album has 20 transparent cover pages, so it seems logical that the scrapbook pages go into these. But there are screws and cardboard stripes too, obviously for expanding the scrapbook and adding more pages and cover pages at a later time, and I have no idea how to do that. I don't see any place where they can be attached. All websites I have found only tell you how to create a page, not the "mechanical" side of things. Oh well, they obviously assume you're not a total theorist like myself... I guess it will take some time till I get the hang of things.

Re: Scrapbooking
I wish I could help! I'm lousy at the crafty stuff like that. I love to draw and paint, but to make scrapbooks and stuff - I'm awful! I think I'm almost too much of a perfectionist when it comes to things like that so instead of relaxing me like it should, it totally STRESSES me out!!
But I looked online and found that die cut and chipboard refer to the type of paper. Die cut would be any paper shapes you have, and chipboard would refer to the thicker paper... paper that's thicker than cardstock but thinner than cardboard.
This page I found to be somewhat helpful, because it at least addressed some of the mechanics of scrapbooking: http://www.squidoo.com/createascrapbook
Wish I knew more on the topic and could help!

Re: Scrapbooking
Thanks, Steph, that's been a huge help already! It's the first site I see that describes the types of actual physical binding. Thanks to you, I now know that my album is post-bound and that you have to expand the spine to expand the album. I just have to lift the left part of the spine when it's open, and underneath --- magic!!! --- there are the screws! The cardboard stripes and extra screws are obviously for extending the spine so you can insert extra cover pages!
As I predicted, now I feel pretty stupid for not figuring that out myself
Thanks for posting that link, it answered my question.

Re: Scrapbooking
This is what I did with some old pics, I made a collage, framed it and hung it in my livingroom.
There is pics of my mum and dad- I love the one on the bottom left, that's taken in the 60:s at an amusement park. People keep saying how much I look like my mum when they see that pic.
My grandparents are in there too, and Charlie of course, and me as a child. And me all dressed up for prom.

Wow, great work, Marie! Very beautiful pictures, too.
And people are right, you do look a lot like your mom. Thanks for sharing so personal a memory.
