Well, it seems you ladies will not give me an excuse for not shaving anymore. So I will have to go on looking for the perfect method.

Reasons not to shave: (just my humble opinion, of of course
)Environmental impact of all those disposable razors and cans of shaving cream!
A real man can handle hair
unnecessary expense
hairlessness is an archaic patriarchal idea of beauty (my personal favorite excuse, though i don't know if i really even agree with it, it just sounds so...uppity!)
K, that's all i've got for the moment
Does that give you enough reasons to skip on the shaving?_________________

But something about the mountain air here, makes me feel like my beauty has nothing to do with whether or not i shave...and my hubby is more of a feminist then me so he's never thought shaving was necessary. My legs don't really get very hairy anyway. At the moment i DO want to shave my head, though; i think i have had quite enough of my dreads...heavy and itchy! But how do you shave off something that took so very long to grow???
Take a pair of scissors and cut away.
But don't cut into the braids, that will reek murder.
Cut where they have grown out a bit.

Wow, I am rather green but I never thought of the razors and bottles as an issue fo waste, not recently.

Re: My Avatars
You will not be able to save any hair from the braids. You will have to start anew with very short hair. I have tried to help a friend who was fed up with those braids. Heavy and unmanagable they were. We thought chin length would be good. NOOOO way. Do you know what rotten potatoes smell like? that gives you an idea of what is in those braids. If you can manage wait until you have about a cm grown out then just do it.

I'm not worried about saving any hair...i actually don't mind if i have to shave it. i usually keep my hair super short, the dreads are a bit of an experiment in tolerance...can i handle the weight/itch/sheer volume of them??? I much prefer uber short hair for myself.

*Velouria* wrote:Ah, shaving. Lol. I hate it. I wish I didn't have to. I'm quite fair, but if I leave my underarms more than a few days I have to get the razor out. My legs aren't SO bad, but I still shave. I guess I only do it every month though. If I leave my hair for too long my BF usually makes some sort of comment... he really isn't turned on by it. But whatever. It's not a major trauma I suppose.
I'm kind of the same, Velouria. I really don't have to shave very often. I usually shave my legs once a month and my underarms once a week (except in the winter, because then I hardly grow any hair at all.)
I will not go into any further detail, but I'm a fairly hairless person...

Re: My Avatars
What weird conversations we have...
I agree that leg shaving is an outdated male image of beauty, BUT, on the other hand.... I am severely grossed out by hairy legs on females (sorry Ensnared....and anyone else not shaving...which I need to do right now
)
IN FACT, I think men should be required to at least shave their armpits....I HATE hairy armpits. EEEWWW!
But, yea, it's just personal opinion.

It doesn't bother me on men, to be honest!! I don't want to run my fingers through it......(eww)...but the sight of it doesn't put me off!!
